Royal DSM is a global, purpose-led, science-based company active in Nutrition, Health and Sustainable Living. DSM’s purpose is to create brighter lives for all. DSM addresses with its products and solutions some of the world’s biggest challenges while simultaneously creating economic, environmental and societal value for all its stakeholders - customers, employees, shareholders, and society at large.
After the acquisition by DSM in 1998 the location Delft became DSM’s global hot spot of biotechnology. The activities on the site in Delft are built upon the 3 pillars that have proven to be a successful combination; research & development, scale-up and production of biotechnological solutions, predominantly in food ingredients.
With respect to research and development, Delft became DSM’s global competence center for biotechnology. About 75% of the more than 500 scientists active in biotechnology in DSM work in Delft, in the so-called DSM Biotechnology Center.
Recently, two new buildings were built; the Food Innovation Center, focused on application of ingredients (for example, by baking breads, making cheeses and performing sensory research). And the Rosalind Franklin Biotechnology Center, a brand new, state of the art laboratory opened in 2017.
