Pruning work on poplar trees at Wallerstraat and Parkweg

Starting at the end of next week, pruning work will be carried out on the seven tall poplar trees located at the end of Wallerstraat and along Parkweg on the Biotech Campus Delft. In professional terms, this type of pruning is called pollarding. This work is necessary because the height and size of the trees pose a risk to the surrounding area, and nearby homes could suffer damage from falling branches. To prevent this, the trees will be significantly trimmed back. The Municipality of Delft has granted a permit for this work.

As it is important that the pruning takes place before the start of the bird breeding season, the work on the trees will be carried out on Friday 13 March and Monday 16 March between 07:30 and 17:00.

A large crane will be used for the pruning. To ensure that the crane can move safely, steel road plates will be placed on the grass field behind the houses on Robert Koumansplein, toward Verkadestraat. These plates will be removed again after the work is completed on Monday 16 March at the end of the day.

The removed branches will be shredded on-site. The resulting wood chips will be used to create a walking path and several wood piles in the park on Meeslaan, which we hope will help stimulate local biodiversity. Construction of the path and wood piles will take place from Monday 16 March to Friday 20 March between 07:30 and 16:30.
