Vitamin boost via Delft food bank

Every week, the volunteers at the Delft food bank ensure that food is provided to around 250 families in Delft. These families are experiencing financial difficulties but can count on the support of the local food bank, which not only provides them with food, but also with a helping hand in other areas in hard times. In February, these families received an extra vitamin boost. The Biotech Campus Delft and dsm‑firmenich made this possible by adding vitamin C and D3 supplements to the food packages.

Supporting health and sustainability
The vitamin tablets are made using ingredients from dsm‑firmenich, an international company that focuses on innovations in the fields of nutrition, health and beauty. The company has an important establishment at the Biotech Campus Delft – the Taste, Texture & Health (TTH) business unit.
Fokke van den Berg, Head of Marketing at dsm‑firmenich TTH, explains: “We are happy to be able to contribute to the health of these Delft residents. Vitamin C strengthens health resistance and vitamin D is also very important for the immune system, especially in the winter months when we get less sunlight. A vitamin D3 supplement really helps you to get through the winter well!”

dsm‑firmenich addresses not only the health of Delft’s inhabitants, but also believes it is important to prevent food waste. Fokke: “The food bank plays an important role in this, by making food that would otherwise go to waste available to people who really need it.” That’s another reason for supporting this organization.

The Delft food bank is delighted with the donation. “We are very grateful for this contribution, especially in the cold winter months. It’s great that we can also provide this extra boost to the families we support,” says a spokesperson for the food bank.

Importance of the food bank
Fokke van den Berg once again emphasizes the importance of the food bank: “It is invaluable to society. Particularly at a time when many people are struggling financially, it is imperative that there are organizations that provide help. What the food bank does for Delft residents, people in the vicinity and the Netherlands as a whole is hugely valuable. We are pleased to be able to support this organization and hope that our contribution will make a difference to the people who need it.”
